DraftKings Reignmakers Explained: Free Starter Pack Offer

DraftKings Reignmakers

DraftKings Reignmakers is a fantasy sports game based on athlete-inspired NFTs. An easy way to think of DraftKings Reignmakers is like daily fantasy sports but played with digital collectible playing cards instead of salary caps and drafts.

Players from all 50 states can visit the DraftKings Marketplace to buy and sell player card NFTs, and anyone in states where DraftKings offers daily fantasy contests can use them to enter no-fee Reignmakers fantasy contests.

DraftKings hosts at least $1 million in guaranteed Reignmakers contests weekly, giving players a chance to win six and seven-figure payouts all season. In addition, DraftKings runs special edition live finals like the Reignmakers World Championship in New Orleans with a $250,000 first-place prize.

How DraftKings Reignmakers Works

DraftKings Reignmakers involves collecting NFTs based on real athletes and using them to construct daily fantasy lineups. Reignmakers contests work like traditional DFS games, except players draft lineups using NFTs they own.

Note: All new users receive a free full roster starter pack to try Reignmakers.

Players can acquire Reignmakers NFTs through the DraftKings Marketplace and use them to build fantasy lineups that accrue points just like in standard DFS contests. However, players can only use each player card once per week in each slate.

Reignmakers contests are free to enter and offer real-money payouts, but DraftKings has hinted at launching paid contests at some point as well.

What Are DraftKings NFTs?

Players will encounter two types of NFTs on DraftKings:

  • Player card NFTs
  • Field Pass NFTs
DraftKings Reignmakers NFTs

Of the two, player card NFTs are vastly more important to understand. They’re essentially just digital trading cards, but they are the foundation of DraftKings Reignmakers.

Each Reignmakers NFT corresponds to a specific athlete who can earn fantasy points in players’ fantasy contests. As a result, the best athlete NFTs tend to trade for the most money in auctions and on the secondary marketplace.

Players can acquire DraftKings Reignmakers NFTs via multiple methods:

  • Purchasing packs through DraftKings NFT drops
  • Buying NFTs on the secondary market
  • Winning auctions on the secondary market
  • As a benefit when buying Field Pass NFTs
  • Winning packs in no-fee contests

Every DraftKings NFT card belongs to one of five rarity levels:

  • Core
  • Rare
  • Elite
  • Legendary
  • Reignmaker

At the low end, Core player cards are inexpensive and easy to find in packs. Player cards become increasingly rare and expensive moving up in tiers. For example, customers could recently find a Core Tom Brady NFT on the Marketplace for less than $9, while a Reignmaker Tom Brady was listed for more than $55,000.

In addition to their resale value, the rarity of NFTs marks their eligibility for contests of the same tier. For example, Elite contests require entrants to build lineups with Elite-tier NFTs. The higher the contest tier, the bigger the potential payout.

Field pass NFTs grant owners additional benefits, including an initial airdrop of a single-player pack, access to limited released side sets, early access to select drops, rebates on pack purchases, and more.

DraftKings Reignmakers NFT Drops

DraftKings NFT drops offer randomized player card packs at varying price points based on the guaranteed contents within each pack. For example, a $20 booster pack guarantees three NFTs with a 50% chance one of them is a rare-tier card.

Similarly, a $320 Elite pack guarantees three core cards, one rare card, and at least one card from the elite/legendary/reignmaker tiers.

NFT packs offer the chance to pick up high-value player cards for a low price, but there are no guarantees as to which cards any pack contains. As such, players risk spending more on packs than just buying each player card individually from the Marketplace.

DraftKings Marketplace Explained

The DraftKings Marketplace opened in 2021 and is where customers go to buy and sell NFTs. Players can visit the Marketplace to get in on NFT drops, buy NFTs from other users, sell NFTs, and bid on auctions.

DraftKings customers can access the marketplace by logging into the DraftKings app or website and visiting the Marketplace tab at the top of the screen. From there, players can see the latest NFT drops, browse the secondary marketplace, search for specific player cards, and list their own NFTs for sale.

The Marketplace also lists collectibles like autographed NFTs from Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski, limited edition holiday sets, collaboration sets from collections like Deadfellaz, and more.

How To Play DraftKings Reignmaker Contests

Reignmaker contests are like regular fantasy sports games but with a different lineup building process.

Instead of drafting players with a salary cap, players in Reignmaker contests build lineups from their own NFT player cards. Scoring, positional requirements, and all the rest is unchanged in Reignmaker contests.

Players can join Reignmaker contests by logging in and visiting the DraftKings lobby to find the game they want. Reignmaker contests are free to enter, but each game’s drafting rules require users to have the right NFTs in terms of positions and rarity.

Higher contest levels require higher rarity NFTs, but players stand to win significantly larger prizes in those games.

DraftKings Reignmaker contest tiers

For example, as the chart above shows, Classic Core contests (the lowest tier) allow players to use player cards from all rarity levels. Moving up a couple of levels, Classic Elite contests require users to build lineups with up to one Rare NFT and at least four Elite or higher NFTs:

In addition, players must build lineups with athlete cards that fit the QB, RB, WR, WR/TE, and FLEX positions.

Once players choose a contest, the draft window shows the lineup’s open positions and each player’s NFT collection. If a player doesn’t have an NFT that fits one of the available draft slots, they can select the shopping cart icon to visit the secondary marketplace and buy a qualifying NFT.

Once users build and submit their lineups, Reignmaker contests work like regular DraftKings DFS games. From then on, players can watch their athletes accumulate fantasy points as usual.

Reignmakers Franchise Scores

DraftKings assigns a franchise score to every user based on their player card NFT collection. Each card in a player’s NFT portfolio adds to their franchise score based on its rarity, set, and age. Additionally, players who hold Field Pass NFTs get a franchise score boost based on its tier:

  • Core Field Pass: 1% score boost
  • Rare Field Pass: 2% score boost
  • Elite Field Pass: 3% score boost
  • Legendary Field Pass: 4% score boost
  • Reignmaker Field Pass: 5% score boost

Full franchise scoring rules here.

DraftKings also maintains a sitewide franchise score leaderboard that issues rewards throughout the season based on their ranking at specific snapshots in time.

For example, a recent NFL preseason snapshot issued prizes to the top 10,000 leaderboard users, including $25,000 for first place. In another instance, DraftKings took a snapshot after a new NFT airdrop and issued $1 million worth of free packs to the leaders and a single-card pack to everyone with at least 25 franchise points.

DraftKings Reignmakers FAQ

Customers can buy and sell Reignmakers NFTs in all 50 states, but contests are restricted in the following states: CT, HI, ID, MT, NV, OR, PA, and WA.

DraftKings designates some players as Superstars at the beginning of the season and updates the list throughout the year based on their performances on the field.

Players may only use one Superstar in each lineup. Additionally, the Superstar tier must match the highest allowed tier in that contest. For example, a contest that allows Rare and Elite player cards accepts Elite-tier Superstars only.

No, but DraftKings generally switches to new sets every season for its Reignmakers contests. Players can buy and sell past seasons’ NFTs indefinitely, but their values tend to decrease over time as Reignmakers shifts its focus to the current season.

However, DraftKings guarantees multi-year utility by holding Reignmaker contests for NFTs from past seasons, providing missions and rewards for players who hold past seasons’ NFTs, and offering incentives for players to exchange their older NFTs for benefits in the current season.

Some Reignmaker contests allow multiple entries, but each lineup must be unique.

All DraftKings customers get a free starter pack to try Reignmakers. Each starter pack contains six core cards to complete a full roster (QB, RB, WR, TE, DEF/FLEX). Players can use their starter pack cards to enter Core-tier contests, but they are not tradeable on the marketplace.

Players must be 18 or older in all 50 states to buy and sell DraftKings NFTs on the marketplace.

DraftKings’ standard DFS age and location rules apply to participating in Reignmakers contests. Players must be 18 or older in most states, 19+ in Alabama and Nebraska, and 21+ in Iowa, Louisiana, Arizona, and Massachusetts to play Reignmakers contests.

DraftKings currently offers contests for the NFL and UFC.
