BetMGM Rewards

MGM Rewards is a tiered loyalty program operated by MGM Resorts to reward guests, gamblers, and customers for nearly every dollar they wager or spend. Benefits run the gamut, from free hotel room upgrades to bonus bets that members can use online at BetMGM.

The MGM Rewards program encompasses MGM Resorts casinos, hotels, and affiliated properties worldwide. It’s free to join, and members accumulate benefits for staying, playing, dining, and shopping at participating destinations.

In addition, all BetMGM Sportsbook, Casino, and Poker customers become members automatically upon registration and earn additional benefits via BetMGM Rewards.

Read on for BettingUSA’s in-depth BetMGM Rewards and MGM Rewards review. This page explains how both programs work, what benefits they provide, and tips for members to extract maximum value.

How MGM Rewards Works

MGM Rewards is an expansive and multi-faceted loyalty program that awards points to customers for nearly every conceivable transaction they can have with MGM Resorts properties and BetMGM Online.

Additionally, customers earn increasingly valuable passive benefits as they move up through five tiers: Sapphire, Pearl, Gold, Platinum, and NOIR – more on that later.

The MGM Rewards program is quite complicated, and MGM is careful to hide pertinent details. The short version is that customers can earn the following types of points based on their spending to access special offers, discounts, and redeemable rewards.

Tier Credits (TCs) determine customers’ statuses in the rewards program.

Customers earn TCs for every dollar they spend or gamble with MGM Resorts and BetMGM. Money spent on hotel rooms, restaurants, entertainment, table games, slots, video poker, and sports wagers accumulate TCs.

MGM Rewards members can also earn Tier Credits through a partnership program with the Marriot Bonvoy rewards program.

MGM Casino guests earn rewards points for playing slots, video poker, and table games. Members also earn points for non-gaming activities such as direct hotel bookings and dining.

Guests can redeem MGM Rewards Points for hotel accommodations, dining at over 400 eligible outlets, entertainment discounts, and MGM Moments. Think of MGM Rewards Points as a self-comping system. This page will discuss how to use MGM Rewards Points in more detail below.

Members earn MGM Slot Dollars by playing video poker, slots, or video lottery terminals (Keno) at any MGM Rewards destination. They are redeemable for FREEPLAY at MGM destinations. Table game players and sports bettors do not earn Slot Dollars.

BetMGM customers earn BetMGM Rewards Points for betting on sports, playing casino games, and participating in real-money poker games online at varying rates (see the table lower on this page for detailed earn rates).

Bettors can redeem their Points for bonuses and MGM Rewards Points.

Borgata Online offers an identical rewards program and taps into MGM Rewards but calls it Borgata Online Rewards. Other than the name, there’s no difference between the Borgata Online loyalty program and BetMGM Rewards.

Note: The Tier Status Earning Year begins on January 1st and runs through December 31st, after which all Tier Credit balances reset to 0. However, customers maintain their highest achieved Tier Status for the following calendar year and through February 1st of the year after that.

In summary, MGM Resorts guests earn Tier Credits and MGM Rewards Points simultaneously for most land-based expenditures and wagers, Slot Dollars by playing machine games at retail MGM casinos, and BetMGM Rewards Points by betting online.

At higher tiers, customers earn bonuses on their Slot Dollars and BetMGM Rewards Points, ranging from a 10% to 40% boost.

What Are MGM Rewards Points?

MGM Rewards Points are a form of virtual currency unique to MGM Resorts. They were formerly called Express Comps, but MGM changed the name when it revamped its loyalty program.

MGM Rewards Points function as a self-comping system. Members can choose their own benefits by redeeming Rewards Points for various perks, such as hotel rooms, entertainment, food and drink at over 400 eligible dining outlets, and MGM Rewards Moments. However, members cannot convert MGM Rewards Points to MGM Slot Dollars.

MGM Rewards Points have a base value of $0.01. Therefore, a customer who has earned 10,000 Points will have earned $100 in comps.

BetMGM customers can convert their BetMGM Rewards Points to MGM Rewards Points, which will appeal to online players who also visit retail MGM venues. Borgata Online Casino and Sportsbook customers can also convert their Borgata Online Rewards to MGM Rewards Points.

Earning MGM Rewards Points

MGM Resorts provides limited information regarding the inner workings of its loyalty program. However, it has revealed some concrete information regarding how to earn MGM Rewards Points.

  • Non-gaming activities: MGM Rewards members earn MGM Rewards Points for every expenditure at retail MGM casinos. They earn 1 MGM Reward Point per $1 spent. An MGM Rewards Point is worth $0.01, so this works out to a 1% kickback.
  • Gaming activities: MGM representatives have been silent on how to earn MGM Rewards Points on slots, but they seem to indicate the earn rate is based on each machine’s theoretical hold. Table game players earn Rewards Points based on their average bet size, length of play, and game type.

MGM Slot Dollars, which members earn by playing slot machines, keno, and video poker, are typically earned at the same rate as MGM Rewards Points. Players may also redeem them for FREEPLAY.

Earning Tier Credits at MGM Casinos

Tier Credits determine each customer’s tier status. The higher a customer climbs, the more luxuries they unlock.

Especially now, achieving a higher status is more beneficial than ever, as MGM has added a host of amenities to its Gold+ tiers.

Players earn Tier Credits at MGM properties by gambling or spending money on non-gaming activities, such as direct hotel bookings and dining. Rates are as follows:

  • Non-gaming: 4 Tier Credits per $1 spent
  • Gaming: Tier Credit earn rate based on length of play, average bet size, and game type

From this, it’s gathered that gamblers earn Tier Credits based on their theoretical loss.

Customers can also elect to earn 4 Tier Credits per $1 spent at participating Marriot hotels. To do this, they must first belong to the Marriot Bonvoy loyalty program.

All MGM customers start as Sapphire members in the five-tier MGM Rewards program and move up from there by earning Tier Credits.

How To Earn BetMGM Rewards Points

BetMGM Rewards Points are the equivalent of MGM Rewards Points, except customers earn them by betting and playing online at BetMGM.

The following tables provide a guideline regarding how to earn BetMGM Rewards Points, but MGM is secretive when it comes to exact earn rates.

VerticalActivityEarn Rate
Sports BettingStraight BetAt least 20 BetMGM Rewards Points per $100 wagered
Sports BettingParlaysAt least 50 BetMGM Rewards Points per $100 wagered
VerticalActivityEarn Rate
CasinoRegular Slots and Instant Win GamesUp to 20 BetMGM Rewards Points per $100 wagered
CasinoProgressive Jackpot SlotsUp to 10 BetMGM Rewards Points per $100 wagered
CasinoTable Games and Live Casino SlotsUp to 4 BetMGM Rewards Points per $100 wagered
CasinoTable Games, Video Poker, and Live Casino SlotsUp to 4 BetMGM Rewards Points per $100 wagered
VerticalActivityEarn Rate
PokerCash gamesUp to 500 BetMGM Rewards Points per $100 in rake
PokerTournamentsUp to 500 BetMGM Rewards Points per $100 in tournament fees

A few points of note:

  • BetMGM players receive an equivalent amount of Tier Credits whenever they receive BetMGM Rewards Points. For instance, if a bettor places a $100 straight bet and receives 20 BetMGM Rewards Points, they’ll also receive 20 Tier Credits that apply toward their MGM Rewards status.
  • For sports bets, notice the use of the language “at least.” Bettors receive even more BetMGM Rewards Points when placing straight and parlay bets at longer odds. This makes sense, especially for parlays, as longer odds usually equate to a higher house commission. The baseline that BetMGM uses is -110 for a straight bet and +300 for a parlay.
  • For online casino games, the indicated rates are the maximum that players can earn. The earn rates are likely based on theoretical hold, with better games rewarding fewer points than what’s listed above.
  • BetMGM has never disclosed the exact rate at which players earn BetMGM Rewards points for playing online poker. The most detailed information BetMGM has provided is that earn rates vary by jurisdiction, and players can earn “up to” 500 Rewards Points for every $100 paid in rake and tournament fees.

BetMGM customers also receive bonus Rewards Points based on their tiers. For example, a Gold player who wagers $100 on regular slots will receive up to 20 Tier Credits and 24 BetMGM Rewards Points thanks to their 20% bonus.

Note: Borgata Online players earn Borgata Online Rewards points at the same rates as listed in the table.

Redeeming BetMGM Rewards Points

BetMGM customers can visit the BetMGM Rewards Store (formerly M life Loyalty Store) to exchange their BetMGM Rewards Points for sports, casino, or poker bonuses or convert them to MGM Rewards Points.

The exchange rate from BetMGM Reward Points to MGM Rewards Points and bonuses is 1.25x. For example, players can exchange 2,000 BetMGM Rewards Points for $25 in MGM Rewards Points or a $25 sports, casino, or poker bonus.

Players can purchase rewards in the following denominations:

  • MGM Rewards Points: $5, $25, $50, $100
  • Sports, Casino, and Poker Bonuses: $2, $5, $10, $25, $50
  • Sportsbook Insurance Tokens: $5, $10, $25

The wagering requirements on casino and sports bonuses is 1x. Sports bonuses can only be used on bets with odds greater than -200 (-200, -110, +150 are eligible, -250, -400, -1000 are not). Poker bonuses are released at a rate of $1 per 2 BetMGM Rewards Points earned. Members used to be able to exchange their BetMGM Rewards Points for cash, but that is no longer an option.

Cashback & Tier Status Calculations

Based on the information above, it’s possible to approximate how much cashback BetMGM customers receive for their sports and casino play.

BetMGM Cashback Percentage

FormatCashback %
Sports Betting: StraightsAt least 0.25% - 0.35%
Sports Betting: ParlaysAt least 0.625% - 0.875%
Regular Slots, Instant WinsUp to 0.25% - 0.35%
Progressive SlotsUp to 0.125% - 0.175%
Table Games, Live Casino SlotsUp to 0.05% -  0.07%

These rates are hardly terrific, but they are above average for the online gambling industry.

Sports bettors who strictly place straight bets must wager the following to achieve each MGM Rewards Tier Status:

  • Pearl: No more than $100,000
  • Gold: No more than $375,000
  • Platinum: No more than $1,000,000
  • NOIR: Unknown, but likely up to $5,000,000+

For parlay bettors, the benchmarks are lower:

  • Pearl: No more than $40,000
  • Gold: No more than $150,000
  • Platinum: No more than $400,000
  • NOIR: Unknown, but probably up to $2,000,000+

There’s not much difference between BetMGM Rewards and MGM Rewards.

It’s best to think of BetMGM Rewards as an extension of MGM Rewards with a few additional perks for customers who use BetMGM to bet on sports, play poker, and gamble online. For example, BetMGM Rewards issues bonus bets to customers on their birthdays and allows bettors to redeem points for bonuses to use on BetMGM.

New users automatically become BetMGM Rewards and MGM Rewards members when they sign up for BetMGM accounts online. Likewise, existing MGM Rewards members can link their accounts to BetMGM Rewards when they join BetMGM.

What seems like the biggest difference isn’t actually significant. BetMGM customers receive BetMGM Rewards Points instead of MGM Rewards Points when they bet and play real-money games online. Bettors can redeem their BetMGM Rewards Points for online betting bonuses and promotions or convert them to MGM Rewards Points and redeem them for in-person perks such as hotel stays, dining credits, and so on.

It also doesn’t matter whether members earn Tier Credits online or in person; it’s all the same and advances them through the overarching tiered loyalty system . For example, a bettor who obtains Pearl Status in MGM Rewards is also a Pearl Status customer at BetMGM.

MGM Resorts overhauled M Life Rewards and rebranded it as MGM Rewards in early 2022. Changes to the MGM Resorts loyalty program were supposedly a result of player feedback, although not everyone sees it that way.

For those familiar with the old M Life Rewards program, here’s a snapshot of the changes:

  • Customers earn 4 TCs per $1 spent on non-gaming activities under MGM Rewards. That’s down from 25 TCs per $1 spent in Las Vegas and 8 TCs per $1 spent at regional MGM destinations when it was M Life Rewards.
  • The 10-40% Tier Status bonus on MGM Rewards Points was discontinued outside of promotional events.
  • MGM Rewards uses a composite of the length of play, average bet size, and game type to determine the Tier Credit earn rate on slots, video poker, and keno. Formerly, customers earned 10 TCs per $3 coin-in on slots and 10 TCs per $10 coin-in on video poker.
  • Members now earn MGM Rewards Points for non-gaming activities at 1 MGM Reward Point per $1 spent. Each point is valued at $0.01, representing a 1% cash-back rate.
  • Members can redeem MGM Rewards Points for food, beverage, entertainment, spa experiences, hotel stays, and rewards at MGM Rewards destinations.
  • Express Comps were rebranded as MGM Rewards Points, and Point Play was rebranded as MGM Slot Dollars. There is no functional difference; this was a change in name only.
  • MGM suspended the Platinum Experience but promised a relaunch down the road.
  • MGM Rewards discontinued the curated living program.
  • Members who generate heavy table gaming activity may be cut off from further MGM Rewards Points. The line appears to be at least $25,000 in spend.

Among players, there were two primary points of contention. The first was the severe drop-off (84% in LV, 50% elsewhere) in Tier Credit earn rates for non-gamblers. Previously, Las Vegas tourists could achieve Pearl status by spending just $1,000 on non-gaming activities. Now they need to spend $5,000.

The second issue is an overall lack of transparency. Specifically, Tier Credit earn rates on slots and video poker games are shrouded in mystery. MGM used to be very clear about this, enabling customers to chart a path to higher tiers.

Now, it appears earn rates are based on a mixture of theoretical loss and time played, meaning good games will reward fewer points than bad ones, and playing slow and casual is preferable to fast and furious. However, figuring out exact earn rates and how to optimize them will require players to conduct elaborate field tests.

MGM Rewards FAQ

MGM Rewards benefits depend on how active customers are. In short, the more customers spend or gamble, the more they receive.

At the lower MGM Rewards levels, members receive BetMGM bonuses, room discounts, dedicated windows at sportsbooks, and other minor benefits. As members move up to higher tier levels and accumulate rewards points, their benefits increase in value to include perks such as free cruises, waived resort fees, late check-out, and limo transportation.

Redemption methods vary based on the types of points customers wish to redeem.

  • MGM Rewards Points: Customers can redeem MGM Rewards Points at MGM Resorts for discounted rooms, concerts, meals, and any shop with an “MGM Rewards Points accepted here” sign.
  • Slot Dollars: Visit almost any slot or video poker machine and select Slot Dollars to redeem rewards points for FREEPLAY.
  • BetMGM Rewards Points: Log in to the BetMGM app or website, select the “my account” menu item, and visit the Loyalty Store to redeem BetMGM Rewards Points for sports, casino, and poker bonuses and MGM Rewards Points.

Yes and no.

At Pearl and above, MGM Rewards Points and Slot Dollars no longer expire. For Sapphire members, they expire after six months of inactivity.

No. BetMGM Sportsbook & Casino customers automatically join MGM Rewards after their first real-money transaction, while guests at MGM Resorts properties can register for free in-person or online.

MGM Tier Credits expire at the start of each year, so the only ways for members to maintain their tiers are to continue earning points or apply for an MGM Mastercard, which keeps all players at a minimum tier level of Pearl.

Participating MGM Rewards destinations include:

Pearl and higher MGM Rewards members get complimentary self-parking at MGM properties in Las Vegas.

All guests need to do is insert their rewards card when entering and exiting the self-parking area. Guests who don’t yet have a rewards card or forget it can take a parking ticket from the kiosk, visit the MGM Rewards desk to receive a new card, and insert it on the way out.

Gold and higher members get free valet parking at MGM properties in Las Vegas. They can take advantage by inserting their valet ticket at the valet payment kiosk to request their vehicle and then inserting their rewards card into the kiosk to remove the parking fee before receiving their vehicle.

Yes. MGM Rewards maintains an extensive tier-matching policy covering dozens of casinos nationwide.

Yes. MGM Resorts invites current and former servicemembers and their spouses to its Military & Veterans Program (MVP). MVP members receive an automatic upgrade to the Pearl tier and special discounts on rooms, restaurants, shows, and attractions.

MGM Resorts guests earn Holiday Gift Shoppe (HGS) points throughout the year for their slots play at a rate of 1 HGS point per slot point earned. At the end of the year, members can visit Las Vegas on specific days to exchange their HGS points for a massive array of gifts from the HGS catalog.

The exact dates vary each year, but guests can visit one of two showrooms in late November and early December to shop in person with their HGS points. MGM casinos in Las Vegas also offer express shopping via kiosks over roughly two weeks each holiday season.

M Life Rewards rebranded to MGM Rewards in February 2022.

The program also underwent a significant facelift, and it wasn’t all for the better. On the plus side, MGM Rewards added a host of new amenities for high-status players and now awards redeemable points for non-gaming activities. The downside is that achieving higher MGM Rewards tiers requires more effort for non-gamblers and gamblers alike.

BetMGM customers earn at roughly the same rate under BetMGM Rewards as they did when it was M Life Rewards. Sports bettors and some slot players have it slightly better than before, while table game players experienced a reduction in earn rates.
