Oregon Mobile Sports Betting App to Launch Mid October

Oregon sports betting launch

The Oregon Lottery hopes to launch its mobile sports betting app, Scoreboard, on the week of October 14th pending final approval from its banking partners.

There was speculation last week that the Scoreboard app would launch on October 7th as reported by John Canzano of the Oregonian:

However, Oregon Lottery Public Information Manager Matthew Shelby spoke with Rip City Mornings recently and said October 7th was never a firm start date. He said some people might have gotten ahead of themselves in anticipation of legal sports betting, but that the Lottery is still waiting for final approval from its payment partners and will need a couple days after that to get up and running.

Shelby said the Lottery currently hopes to have Scoreboard live on the week of October 14th.

The timeline has been pushed back just a bit but if all goes well, Oregonians will be able to bet on sports online through the Scoreboard app from the Oregon Lottery very soon.

Internal Testing of the Scoreboard App Successful

The Oregonian reported on September 11th that the Scoreboard app would likely be ready to launch about a month from then. This latest update from John Canzano aligns with that timeline, and it appears internal testing was a success.

Now, it seems it is just a matter of getting everything in place for customer deposits and payouts.

As the Oregonian reported at the time, the Scoreboard betting app itself was already fully vetted and all that remained was to integrate the various systems needed to run a functional online sports betting product.

From Oregon Lottery spokesman Matt Shelby earlier this month:

“We have an app. We know that works. What we’re testing is the integration of the various systems that need to talk to one another. It’s going well but we’re still a few weeks from actually having an app available in the Apple store.”

Oregon Mobile Betting Basics

The Scoreboard sports betting app should be live on or shortly after October 7th if all goes according to plan.

Scoreboard will be available for iOS and Android devices. iPhone users will be able to download Scoreboard from the App Store while Android users will be able to visit the Oregon Lottery website for a direct download link.

Additionally, the Oregon Lottery says it will launch online betting at the lottery website for desktop users.

Oregon sports betting law requires all users to be 21 or older and located within state lines to bet online. Customers do not need to be residents of the state; they need only be physically present in Oregon.

Ambitious Revenue Projections Despite Lack of College Wagering

The Oregon Lottery has set ambitious revenue projections once the app goes live. According to the Oregonian, the lottery expects to realize net profits of $37 million over the first three years on total handle of $1.6 billion.

This estimate comes despite the lottery having no plans to accept wagers on college sports. Lottery officials have said they may revisit college betting at a later date but will begin with a focus on professional leagues.

In the meantime, college sports fans can visit the sportsbook at Chinook Winds Casino Resort for a full menu of wagering that includes college betting. The Chinook Winds Sportsbook is open seven days a week from 8 AM to 11 PM.
