BetLucky Sportsbook launched in 2018 with the distinction of being the first online sports betting app to be licensed in West Virginia. Gaming hospitality company Delaware North operated Bet Lucky as a part of a wider partnership with sportsbook software company Miomni.
Just three months after launching, BetLucky suddenly ceased operations after an unspecified contract dispute between Miomni and a third-party vendor contracted to provide services to Miomni. A Delaware North statement to the Charleston Gazette-Mail confirmed BetLucky would pay all outstanding wagers but provided scant details otherwise:
“We have been informed by Miomni Gaming, our sports wagering platform provider in West Virginia, that they have encountered a contract dispute with a third-party technology supplier.
“This has resulted in the interruption of the Wheeling Island and Mardi Gras sports-betting operations, as well as the BetLucky.com mobile app from accepting new sports wagers. We are honoring and redeeming all resulted bets and are working to determine a time frame for restoration. We apologize for this interruption in service.”
Meanwhile, the WV Lottery Director only stated that the interruption of service was a result of a private contract dispute and not regulatory action. “We’re obviously hoping it’s a matter of days, and not months,” he told the Gazette-Mail.
The issue ended up being the result of a contract dispute between Miomni and third-party software solutions provider Entergaming. The exact nature of the dispute remains somewhat unclear, but what we gleaned from a Delaware North press release is that Miomni did not own the entirety of the source code behind the platform and failed to reveal this fact to Delaware North.
Delaware North proceeded with the partnership on the understanding that Miomni fully owned the entire platform it would be providing to BetLucky and the retail sportsbooks at Mardi Gras and Wheeling Island. Thus, Delaware North had no reason to believe its sports betting operations would be reliant on anyone except Miomni Gaming.
At some point, Miomni and Entergaming had a dispute that resulted in Entergaming refusing to provide critical services to Miomni. This in turn led to an interruption in service that came as a complete surprise to Delaware North and its customers.
Delaware North parted ways with Miomni and sued its former partner. Later, Delaware North launched the Betly Sportsbook brand in partnership with Belgian gaming company GAMING1.
BetLucky Bonus and Promo Code
BetLucky no longer offers a bonus or utilizes a promo code. If the brand ever relaunches we will update this review to the current offer.
BetLucky VIP Program
Wheeling Island Casino and the BetLucky App offered a shared customer loyalty program called the Lucky North Club.
All wagers placed in-person at the casino or through the Wheeling Island version of BetLucky earned loyalty points that could be exchanged for cash back, food discounts, concert tickets, hotel rooms, access to special events, and more.
How BetLucky Points were earned:
- Every $10 wagered through the BetLucky app: 1 point
- Every $5 wagered on slots and racing at Wheeling Island: 1 point
- Every $10 wagered on table games at Wheeling Island: 1 point
Every 100 points was worth $1 in Lucky North rewards.
Note: the Mardi Gras version of the BetLucky app did not have a rewards program.
BetLucky Sports Betting App
The BetLucky app had some strong points as well as some areas with obvious room for improvement.
On the positive side, the BetLucky app had quick loading times and simple, straightforward navigation.
Downloading and installing the Bet Lucky was easy. After installing, the app walked bettors through a simple getting started process.
On the negative side, the app was a bit too simplistic. In particular, the lack of early cash outs and small number of wagers offered for individual games stopped BetLucky from reaching its full potential as an online sportsbook.
Luisa Woods of Delaware North once stated on that BetLucky “was designed to flexible” and hinted at “innovative features designed specifically to engage and entertain U.S. sports fans.” Those words seem to indicate Delaware North had bigger plans in store before the entire operation folded.

BetLucky In-Play Betting
Interestingly, BetLucky had more in-play betting options than standard pre-game wagers.
For example, BetLucky typically offered the following in-play wagers during a college football game:
- Game total
- Alternate game total
- Home team and away team totals
- Point spreads on money lines on who will win
- 1st quarter result
- First team to score 5, 20 or 25 points
The in-play betting interface was responsive and easy to use but did not offer much in the way of statistics.
BetLucky also lacked an early cash-out feature.
BetLucky Sports Betting Markets
BetLucky focused exclusively on in-season North American sports. There were no signs of international sports leagues or even futures on other North American sports when BetLucky was operational.
BetLucky also offered only basic types of wagers like moneylines, point spreads, and point totals, and not much else.
BetLucky did support custom parlays and round robin bets.
For comparison’s sake, other sports betting sites offer hundreds of different wagers.
It is worth pointing out that the lines at BetLucky were surprisingly competitive.

The BetLucky parent company Delaware North operates casinos and race tracks in Illinois, New York, Arkansas, Ohio, Arizona and Florida, but operations closed down before those states legalized sports betting.
Expert Opinion: Is BetLucky Legit?
BetLucky was operated by a reputable parent company (Delaware North) which went on to launch the Betly Sportsbook brand. Although BetLucky collapsed due to the Miomni dispute, it was a legitimate brand up until that point, and Delaware North ensured all customers with outstanding bets were paid.
