Fubo Sportsbook Review (CLOSED)

Important Update: Fubo Sportsbook closed permanently in October 2022. In an earnings statement, Fubo management explained:

FuboTV’s expected preliminary results demonstrate a continued progression towards the company’s 2025 profitability targets. Given these goals, the company has now completed its previously announced strategic review of the Fubo Gaming business. While multiple parties expressed interest in the business, none of these opportunities would have allowed Fubo to lower its funding requirements and generate sufficient returns to shareholders. As a result, FuboTV will close its Fubo Gaming subsidiary and cease operation of its owned-and-operated Fubo Sportsbook effective immediately.

Note: This review serves as an archive for historical purposes and will no longer be maintained or updated.

Fubo Sportsbook aimed to bridge the gap between sports betting and live broadcasts in a way no other operator had to date.

Customers did not need a FuboTV account to bet with Fubo Sportsbook, but it did enhance the in-play betting experience. Fubo Sportsbook wanted to singlehandedly drag the industry to the next level by synching sports betting with its live sports broadcasts to provide customers a better way to watch and wager.

The Fubo Sportsbook app offered in-play betting to all users, but FuboTV subscribers received an enhanced experience that synched what they were watching in real-time with the betting app.

Fubo Sportsbook States

Fubo Sportsbook was available in Arizona, Iowa, and New Jersey, with plans to launch in additional states. Bettors in all states could download the Fubo Sportsbook app for iOS and Android to check out the interface and view the lines, but they could only place wagers when physically located in states where Fubo Sportsbook operated.

In addition, Fubo Sportsbook had market access agreements in place for launches in Indiana, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.

Fubo Sportsbook Promo Code and Bonus

Fubo Sportsbook welcomed New Jersey customers with a $150 free bet and a free month of FuboTV.

New customers in NJ could claim the Fubo Sportsbook bonus in three steps:

  • Sign up for an account and use the promotional code BUSABONUS when asked on the registration page
  • Log in and make a first deposit of at least $20
  • Place a wager of at least $20 at odds of -200 or greater (-200, -150, +110, +250, etc.)

Anyone who completed those steps received a $150 free bet within 72 hours. The free bet was not withdrawable, but bettors could use it on any sport to win withdrawable cash. In addition, anyone who claimed this offer received a free month of FuboTV.

Fubo Sportsbook App Review

The Fubo Sportsbook app looked and functioned like many others at first glance, but users unlocked its full functionality when they paired it with a FuboTV subscription to watch and wager on live sports.

For users without FuboTV, the sportsbook app provided a straightforward wagering interface. Customers could log in to view the most popular wagers of the day or use a simple navigation menu to visit each sport’s homepage, view current in-play betting options, manage pending bets, and manage their accounts.

Customers with FuboTV could unlock the app’s full potential by logging in with their existing account to synch the wagering app with FuboTV. For example, users could watch an MLB game on FuboTV and open to app to jump straight to in-play betting markets for that game.

Regarding design and interface, the Fubo sports betting app looked nice but wasn’t particularly eye-catching. The app responded quickly to commands and displayed the odds in a simple fashion, but it didn’t offer much in terms of advanced statistics and betting trends.

Fubo Sportsbook In-Play Betting

In-play betting was where Fubo Sportsbook hoped to differentiate itself from the competition in several key ways.

First, Fubo Sportsbook offered in-play betting to all users, whether or not they had a FuboTV subscription. Anyone could simply log in, visit the in-play wagering tab, and bet on games as they happened.

FuboTV subscribers could take full advantage of the app’s capabilities by turning on the TV, watching sports, and opening the app. As customers switched games, the Fubo Sportsbook app automatically switched to that game and provided in-play wagers that synched to the game they were watching.

However, Fubo Sportsbook’s synching capabilities offered more than just convenience. The app’s in-play markets synched to the live feed customers were watching in real-time, which means sports bettors could bet on in-game events as they happened on the screen in a way that other sportsbook brands couldn’t match.

Other online sportsbooks don’t synch to the on-screen action to the same extent due to streaming delays. Even if someone watches a game on a streaming service and opens another sportsbook’s app, what’s happening on the screen probably won’t align with the available betting markets due to delays in the streaming feed.

Fubo Sportsbook solved the issue for cord-cutters by synching directly with FuboTV streams so customers could watch and wager in real-time. The resulting experience was one in which in-app odds matched what was happening on the screen to create a more immersive experience.

That said, Fubo Sportsbook was still a product in development, and it still had to prove to customers that it could deliver well-synched odds consistently. The concept was promising, but the jury was still out on whether it could deliver when Fubo Sportsbook closed.

Expert Opinion: Was Fubo Sportsbook Legit?

Fubo Sportsbook was a unique but legitimately licensed online sportsbook. The Fubo Sportsbook app felt like a polished product, but it lacked in the areas of market depth, live data, and ongoing promotions for existing customers. Ultimately, overcoming those challenges and competing in the US online betting market proved too expensive, leading to Fubo Sportsbook’s permanent closure.
