Indiana Lottery

There’s currently no way to play the Hoosier Lottery online, and none of BettingUSA’s trusted lottery courier apps operate in Indiana. As a result, the only way to buy Indiana Lottery tickets today is in person through licensed retailers.

Hoosier Lottery officials have not alluded to any plans to introduce online sales, but Indiana lawmakers have considered legislation that would give the State Lottery Commission that authority.

For instance, lawmakers introduced HB 1432 in early 2025 to authorize the State Lottery Commission to:

  • Offer draw game ticket sales online
  • Operate instant win games online
  • Authorize and regulate third-party lottery couriers

The bill died before making it to a full House vote, but that doesn’t necessarily mean lawmakers oppose taking the Indiana Lottery online. The bill faced an uphill battle as it also aimed to legalize online casinos in Indiana and more than double the state’s online sports betting tax. Ironing out lawmakers’ differences of opinion on such a broad range of significant legislative issues would have been difficult in any state.

Hoosier Lottery offerings span traditional draw games with massive jackpots, daily drawing games with minor but frequent jackpots, instant play variations, scratch tickets, and one keno variant:

Hoosier Lottery Taxes

All prizes of $1,200 or more (minus your stake) are subject to a 3.23% state tax. You won’t incur automatic federal withholding in Indiana until you win a jackpot of $5,000 or more (minus your stake). At that point, you’ll also have 24% withheld for federal taxes. Remember that you’re being taxed twice – the federal rate and the Indiana rate.

Indiana is probably a top-5 state in terms of low lottery taxation rates. In Vermont you’ll pay just under 9% in state tax, which is almost three times more than in Indiana. Indiana’s tax rates are competitive with some of the states known for low lottery taxes – the state of Indiana takes less from prizes than Arizona, Colorado, or Michigan.
