Tennessee Lottery

Players 18+ and physically located within state lines can buy Tennessee Lottery tickets online through the official TN iLottery app.

The Tennessee Lottery offers online sales through a standalone app separate from the app players have long used to scan tickets for winners and manage their rewards accounts. Players can only buy Tennessee Lottery tickets online by downloading the app featuring this exact title: TN iLottery Official App.

Currently, the TN iLottery app only allows players to buy Powerball tickets online in Tennessee and pay via electronic bank transfers (ACH). However, additional game types and payment methods are reportedly coming soon.

Players can purchase one to five tickets per drawing for up to ten consecutive drawings, meaning the Tennessee Online Lottery app supports order sizes ranging from one to fifty tickets.

The TN iLottery app automatically pays all winnings under $600 directly to customers’ accounts, and players may withdraw their winnings electronically. If a player wins $600 or more, the Tennessee Lottery will contact them with instructions for claiming their prize.

Tennessee Online Lottery Law

The Tennessee Lottery launched online ticket sales in January 2025 with little fanfare or advance notice, not even an official press release on its website. In all likelihood, the Tennessee Education Lottery Corporation (TELC) opted for an understated launch because it proceeded without waiting for the legislature to pass a bill unequivocally legalizing online sales.

Instead, TELC adjusted its interpretation of existing law to authorize online ticket sales.

First, TN Code § 4-51-108(a)(2) limits all Tennessee Lottery ticket sales to cash, specifically “coins or notes.” However, the TELC has a solid legal case for interpreting that provision as only applying to authorized retailers because the next sentence states that “nothing in this part shall be construed as prohibiting or restricting the direct sale of lottery tickets or shares by the corporation through any form of payment and in any amount.”

Second, TN Code § 4-51-122(a)(9)(A) states that any electronic devices or machines used to sell lottery tickets may only be placed on the premises of an authorized retailer. Similarly, it’s not a reach to assume that provision only applies to retailers. If the law intended to prohibit the Tennessee Lottery from selling tickets online or through mobile apps, it would have stated as such in more precise terms.

The Tennessee Lottery boasts a well-furnished game catalog featuring multi-state jackpot games, two Tennessee-exclusive draw games, and more.

Additionally, the Tennessee Lottery offers an unusually large number of scratch cards at more price points than the average state lottery.

Noteworthy developments, including the first scratch ticket with a $5 million prize and Tennessee’s exclusive daily jackpot game, keep interest in its offerings high.

The complete lineup includes the following:

  • Mega Jackpot Draw Games: Powerball, Mega Millions, Cash4Life, and Lotto America
  • State-Operated Jackpot Game: Tennessee Cash
  • Daily Drawings: Daily Tennessee Jackpot, Cash 3, and Cash 4
  • Keno: Tennessee Keno with drawings every four minutes
  • Instant Games: 125+ scratch tickets priced from $1 to $50

Frequent Tennessee Lottery players can join the VIP Rewards program to earn points for their ticket purchases, enter second-chance drawings, and participate in other promotions.

VIP Rewards is free to join, and members earn points for submitting draw game tickets and non-winning instant tickets through the VIP Rewards website or by scanning them with the TN Lottery app.

Members can earn rewards via three types of promotional drawings:

  • VIP Rewards Drawings: Redeem points for entries into drawings for significant cash prizes
  • Play It Again! Drawings: Enter non-winning scratch tickets to earn VIP Rewards Points and automatically participate in Play It Again drawings for a second chance to win that game’s top prize. Play It Again drawings alone award nearly $15 million a year to VIP Rewards members.
  • Second-Chance Drawings: Enter select draw game and instant tickets to participate in drawings for cash prizes, vacations, and more.

Winners of $600 or less can claim their prizes at any Tennessee Lottery retailer or by mail (see below for address and instructions).

Players who win $600 or more can claim their prizes via mail or in person at the Tennessee Lottery headquarters or one of the lottery’s claim centers in Chattanooga, Knoxville, and Memphis.

If a player wins a prize of $200,000 or more, they must claim it in person at the TN Lottery headquarters.

Players must bring or send the following items when claiming prizes in person or via mail:

  • The original, signed ticket
  • A completed claim form if the prize is greater than $600
  • Government-issued photo ID
  • Proof of SSN; examples include Social Security cards, pay stubs, and tax forms
