Coinbase contends that the CFTC holds exclusive jurisdiction over all prediction markets, meaning its full range of prediction markets is legal nationwide. In some states, the outcomes of ongoing legal battles will determine whether sports and political contracts will remain available in the future.

The current Coinbase offer does not require a bonus code. However, you’ll often see various Coinbase promo codes for smaller promotions via app notifications, official e-mails, and when logged in to the website.

Terms and conditions are minimal:

• First purchases made with assets transferred to your portfolio are ineligible. You need to use an actual payment method (bank transfer, credit card, etc.) to complete your first purchase. For example, transferring ETH from an outside wallet and exchanging it for BTC does not qualify.
• This Coinbase bonus is available only to new customers.
• 99% of new users who spin the wheel will receive a reward of $30-$100 in Bitcoin.

Two things worth noting:

First: If you already have a Coinbase account, you can access its prediction markets without any additional signup process beyond a standard CFTC-mandated financial and trading experience disclosure. Currently, there’s no separate bonus for existing users who start trading predictions.

Other Coinbase Predict Promos

Prediction market platforms typically aren’t very promo-heavy, but Coinbase does occasionally run promotions for event contract trading.

For example, shortly after launching, Coinbase Predict held a $1,000,000 Big Game promotion. All customers who submitted five correct Super Bowl predictions received an equal share of Coinbase’s $1 million Bitcoin prize pool. Customers could participate by either trading five Super Bowl contracts or by submitting a mail-in entry (no purchase necessary).

How Coinbase Predictions Work

Coinbase’s prediction markets allow users to trade binary yes/no contracts tied to the outcomes of real-world events.

Each contract trades between $0.01 and $0.99, roughly representing the crowd’s collective probability sentiment. If your side wins, the contract settles at $1. If it loses, it settles at $0.

For example, if a “Yes” contract on the Seahawks to win the game is trading at 68¢, it means the market collectively believes the Seahawks have a 68% chance of winning.

You fund trades using your existing USD or USDC balance in Coinbase. Select a market, choose “Yes” or “No,” enter the amount you’d like to spend, and confirm. Prices update in real time as traders buy and sell, just like a stock exchange.

Here are two theoretical Coinbase prediction market examples:

• If you buy 100 “Yes” contracts at 68¢ on “Seahawks to win,” you’ll spend $68. If they win, your contracts will settle at $1 each for a $100 payout. Net profit before fees: $32.
• Similarly, buying 100 “Yes” contracts at 32¢ on “Patriots to win” will cost you $32. If they win, your contracts will settle at $1 each for a $100 payout. Net profit before fees: $68.

One handy feature is the ability to exit positions early. If news moves the market in your favor, you can sell your contracts before settlement to lock in a profit or cut your losses.

Settlement happens automatically once the independent source named in the market’s rules confirms the outcome. In most cases, settlement occurs within 24 hours of the market’s close date, and payouts typically occur 5-10 minutes later.

Coinbase Predict does not operate as a standalone app. Instead, users can trade event contracts inside the existing Coinbase app.

Overall, the experience feels polished and familiar to anyone who’s used Coinbase for crypto trading. Markets load quickly, and the straightforward interface feels intuitive.

Individual market screens display current prices, volume, order book data, and clear settlement rules without overwhelming users. Additionally, buying and selling contracts requires just a few taps.

The Coinbase predictions app handles live trading well during major events, with consistent, reliable pricing updates.

On the other hand, there’s room for improvement in a couple of areas.

We also find the app’s search tool buggy and prone to assuming our search intent before we’ve entered a complete search term. For example, when searching for “election” inside the prediction markets area, the app consistently interrupted our search at “ele” to display unrelated stock tickers and cryptocurrencies.

The search tool does eventually work if you’re persistent, but it requires a few attempts and some patience.

Additionally, social features are currently light. Unlike some competitors that integrate comment sections or “whale watching” feeds, Coinbase Predict keeps the experience private and focused on the trade. However, the sheer ease of moving from checking your Bitcoin balance to betting on the election makes the app stickier than most standalone competitors.

Coinbase Predict accepts USD and USDC (stablecoin) deposits through Coinbase’s existing wallet and payment methods. Some deposit methods are free, others charge a hefty percentage, and they’re all relatively fast:

When you enter a position, cash transfers from your primary balance into a derivatives account maintained by Coinbase Financial Markets. When positions close, any available funds return to your main Coinbase account automatically.

Coinbase Predict’s primary differentiator compared to other platforms is convenience for existing users.

If you already hold USD or USDC on Coinbase, getting started is far more convenient because you can start trading predictions without signing up again, funding a separate wallet, and restarting identity verification.

Instead of managing multiple accounts, you can view your crypto holdings and prediction markets inside your portfolio view. For crypto-native traders, being able to hedge Bitcoin price exposure directly alongside your spot holdings is a nice touch that other platforms can’t match.

The $1 minimum trade size makes Coinbase Predict approachable for casual users who want to explore prediction markets without significant upfront risk.

Another unique benefit is USDC integration. While other platforms might require deposits via bank transfer that take days to clear, or use volatile cryptocurrencies for settlement, Coinbase allows trading directly with USDC. This stablecoin offers the speed of crypto with the stability of the dollar.

The trade-off is that you’ll pay higher trading fees with Coinbase Predict than with Kalshi. Coinbase appears to charge Kalshi’s base fee plus a markup, but it’s still cheaper than some of the alternatives, such as PredictIt.

Final Thoughts: Is Coinbase Predict Legit?

Coinbase Predict is a legitimate prediction markets platform and operates under federal regulatory oversight.

Its prediction markets subsidiary, Coinbase Financial Markets, is registered with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) and is an approved member of the National Futures Association. All contracts come from Kalshi, which operates as a CFTC-regulated designated contract market.

The CFTC-regulated structure, Kalshi partnership, and Coinbase’s established track record provide strong credibility.

For existing Coinbase users, the convenience is hard to beat. One app, one balance, and instant access to thousands of markets make it an attractive option for anyone who already has an account.

The primary downside is that Coinbase doesn’t disclose its fee structure, making it difficult to compare costs with competitors. We can confidently say that Coinbase charges lower trading fees than some alternatives (like PredictIt), but it’s also more expensive than Kalshi and Polymarket.

Coinbase Predict is a good option if you:

• Are an existing Coinbase user and would like to track your predictions, use a familiar platform, and view your contract positions alongside your other holdings
• Prioritize fast payments and being able to get started as quickly as possible over advanced features and minimal fees

However, you may want to consider a different platform or going straight to Kalshi if you:

• Want more sophisticated trading tools
• Are a volume trader seeking the lowest possible trading fees
