Now that the baseball season is in full swing, it’s time to start looking ahead to the big season-end finales to be hosted by all the major fantasy sites. The 800-pound gorilla in the room is, of course, FanDuel.com. They recently revealed the details of the upcoming World Fantasy Baseball Championship (WFBC), and it’s going to be a big one.

The 2015 WFBC will be handing out $6,000,000 between qualifying contests and the live final to be hosted in Las Vegas. If you win a seat, FanDuel will fly you out to Vegas to compete in a 90-person contest with $4,000,000 up for grabs. Another $2,000,000 will be awarded as consolation prizes across the daily qualifiers leading up to the grand finale.

The only way to win a spot in the 2015 World Fantasy Baseball Championship is to win a qualifier contest online at FanDuel.com. If you manage to score a seat, you’ll be flown out to Las Vegas to stay at the Cosmopolitan Hotel from August 20th through the 22nd. The final will be hosted there on the 22nd.

How The Fantasy Baseball World Championship Works

FanDuel will be running qualifiers every day from here on out. Each qualifier contest will award one finalist seat in addition to cash prizes for the runners up. They will also be hosting a few super-qualifiers that award multiple seats in one contest. You can buy in direct to

The Live Final

Ninety people will compete for a share of the $4 million prize pool, with $1 million of that going to first place. You’ll draft a lineup just like normal, but a live viewing party at the Cosmopolitan will bring you all together in person to watch the games with VIP treatment through the end. The best party of all is that nobody goes home empty handed. Just qualifying for the live final guarantees the party of a lifetime and at least $10,000 in prizes money.

In addition to competing for the biggest prize pool in fantasy baseball, you’ll also get a chance to meet the legendary Bo Jackson at the FanDuel Home Run Derby Contest on August 21st. And yes, you will be swinging the bat in an attempt to win even more prizes. The home run contest will be hosted at the Big League Dreams baseball stadium in Vegas.

I don’t have any videos from previous Baseball Championships, but I was able to dig up a video recap from FanDuel’s last NFL championship. That one was held at the Playboy Mansion (FanDuel also had basketball championship held at the Playboy Mansion) and even though it’s a completely different event, it should give you a decent idea of how they like to party.

Prize Pool

A lot of money will exchange hands in Las Vegas, more specifically to your hands. No matter what happens or how poorly your team performs in the live final, the worst that can happen is you win $10,000. All 90 contestants will end the day with more money than they started.

  • 1st Place: $1,000,000
  • 2nd Place: $500,000
  • 3rd Place: $250,000
  • 4th Place: $200,000
  • 5th Place: $150,000
  • 6th Place: $100,000
  • 7-8th Place: $75,000
  • 9-10th Place: $50,000
  • 11-15th Place: $40,000
  • 16-25th Place: $30,000
  • 26-35th Place: $25,000
  • 36-50th Place: $20,000
  • 51-70th Place: $15,000
  • 71-90th Place: $10,000

Obviously first place is ideal, but really all you need to do is just win a seat and get there. Qualifying is 90% of the battle. Once you make it to Vegas, you’ll be set to have a serious vacation and win ten grand at the very least.

Prize Packages

Each of the 90 prize packages is valued at $48,444. This includes money used to fund the live final prize pool plus free airfare to Las Vegas, three nights at the Cosmopolitan and two entries each for the Thursday welcome mixer, home run derby and Saturday WFBC viewing party.
