New Nevada Interactive Gaming Self-Exclusion List Coming

Nevada announces online self exclusion list

Across the United States, online gaming regulators and advocacy groups have called on operators to focus on responsible gaming. As part of this effort, self-exclusion lists are created to allow online gamblers to self-exclude for a period of time from gaming. It seems that Nevada has now decided to help players control online problem gambling by creating its own interactive gaming self-exclusion list.

According to a Las Vegas Review-Journal report, the Nevada Gaming Commission has now added text to Regulation 5A in the state to create the Nevada self-exclusion list. The Nevada Gaming Control Board will be in charge of overseeing the new program.

Self-Control Gambling Impulses

Online gamblers in Nevada can use the list as a way to self-control gambling habits. Adding their name to the index will allow players to block their ability to access online gambling games in the state. The new list marks the first time that the regulators in Nevada have decided to regulate online gambling habits with a self-exclusion option.

The new regulation states that the board will create and maintain a list that will be active statewide. Individuals listed are those who chose to self-exclude, and their name will note the start date of exclusion.

The board shall update the statewide list of individuals who have self-excluded each day and provide operators with access to the list.”

Nevada’s Gaming Control Board has a Technology Division currently working out the details as to how the list will operate. In general, the concept involves the individual filling out a form to be self-excluded. Once the form is completed, the name of the individual is added to the list. It is unclear as to how long one can self-exclude from online services.

The new list will not be connected to the land-based industry. An individual who chooses to self-exclude from online casino gaming would still have access to games within a land-based facility.

Multi-State Self-Exclusion

As online gambling is growing throughout the United States, new tools and resources are being created to help with problem gambling. PlayPause is a unique responsible gaming tool designed by Conscious Gaming to help players avoid iGaming in multiple states.

GeoComplay powers the tool technology, allowing players to choose to self-exclude across multiple jurisdictions instead of within a single state. Conscious Gaming realized that players could easily self-exclude in one state but then cross into another to play online. With PlayPause, gamblers can be more responsible by cutting off access to other states where online gaming services are available.

While PlayPause has not been implemented in many states just yet, it is an option that is free to operators and regulators. For example, the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board has deployed the option, the first state in the US to do so.

Major gambling service companies have also seen the benefit of using PlayPause. BetMGM was one of the first to partner with Conscious Gaming to offer the advanced technology to its players, but not the only operator to do so.

As online gambling continues to expand in the United States, it is expected that more self-exclusion lists, tools, and resources will be created to help players suffering from a form of gambling addiction.
