The Party Poker name rode the online poker boom to glory in the early days of online gaming and reigned as the biggest poker site for US players prior to 2006. Legislation unfriendly to online gaming resulted in Party Poker leaving the US market, but Party Gaming remained busy overseas and spent the time away growing on the international market.
Party Casino and Party Poker both run in conjunction with Atlantic City's own Borgata to offer legal online gambling. Party Poker still has some growing to do, but Party Casino has already established itself as one of New Jersey's most successful gaming sites.
- LIcensed and legal in the USA
- Nice collection fo slot machines
- Not nearly enough table games
- Poker room needs more traffic
Party Gaming merged with Bwin to form bwin.party in 2011, and the entire thing was later bought out by GVC Holdings where it remains today. The Party name has been through a lot since the old US days prior to 2006, but the name lives on to this very day. Party was able to regain access to the US market in New Jersey and is teamed up with Borgata Casino in Atlantic City to serve residents of New Jersey.
Party Casino and Party NJ together offer players a full range of gaming options with casino games, table games, multi-player poker and much more all accessible from a single account. Both websites hold active licenses from the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement.
Today, we will be discussing both websites separate on a single page. You can use the following links to jump ahead to the portion of the review that interests you most. We’ll be offering our personal opinions on a few aspects of Party NJ, but overall we will be sticking to the straight-up facts so you can form your own opinion and decide if this is the right gaming site for you.
Party Casino Review
When Party Casino first came to New Jersey, it was in the form of an add-on to the Party Poker software rather than a standalone product. At that time, Party Casino felt like more of an add-on or an afterthought than an actual, full-fledged gaming site. Party Casino finally branched out onto its own website in early 2018 and is now a complete online casino.
Party now runs one of the bigger online casinos in New Jersey with a large collection of slots from multiple software providers, table games, multiple forms of blackjack, progressive jackpot games and even a handful of live dealer games featuring real, human dealers who deal the cards in real time via streaming video.
Party Casino offers up to $500 for new players, runs a loyalty program, provides recurring promotions for existing customers and does it all under the purview of the NJ Division of Gaming Enforcement.
The new Party Casino NJ is an upgrade over the old casino by almost every measure. The new casino is independent from the poker client, requires no download, offers more games, a better interface and better graphics.
Where the new Party Casino stumbles is in its promotional offerings. The new customer bonuses and loyalty promotions look nice in theory, but come with significant terms and conditions that make it difficult to derive any real value from them.
Party Casino Bonus
The Party Casino bonus can be claimed to double each of your first three deposits for up to $500 extra. After you sign up for an account, use the bonus code WELCOMEBONUS when you make your first deposit and you’ll receive the following bonuses across your first three deposits:
- First deposit: 100% up to $200
- Second Deposit: 100% up to $150
- Third Deposit: 100% up to $150
These are fairly large bonuses for an online casino, but there are some key terms and conditions that you should understand before claiming this bonus. Most importantly, the bonus has high rollover requirements and is really only useful for slots players. If you don’t play slots or don’t feel like being on the hook for a 20x rollover, you can just skip the bonus code to opt out.
Also, remember to use the bonus code WELCOMEBONUS if you wish to claim this offer.
Important terms and conditions: The minimum deposit to trigger a bonus is $10. This bonus comes with a 20x rollover on the deposit + bonus amount before the bonus money or any winnings may be withdrawn. This bonus cannot be cleared with table games or video poker and you have 30 days to clear the entire bonus.
Example: A $100 deposit would get you a $100 bonus for a total of $200. Your total wagering requirements would be $200 x 20 = $4,000 before the bonus money or any winnings obtained by wagering the bonus money may be withdrawn. After you meet the wagering requirements, any winnings will be credited to your account.
Weekly Reload Bonus
After you claim and clear your first deposit bonus, you can claim one more bonus every week on a day of your choosing. You can see your current bonus offer by logging in to your account on any weekday, visiting the “my bonuses” section and then look for your weekly reload bonus code. After that, you can make a deposit with that bonus code to claim your offer.
Important terms and conditions: All reload bonuses come with a 35x deposit + bonus rollover that must be met within 3 days of receiving the bonus. If you are unable to meet the clearing requirements in time, the bonus offer and any winnings derived from wagering the bonus will be removed from your account.
Party Casino earns high marks in game selection and variety with slots, table games, video poker and live dealer games all on offer in all manner of style and theme. Slots account for the bulk of Party Casino’s 200+ games while table games, video poker and live dealer games account for all the rest.
There are also seven progressive jackpot slots on offer, but all share one of just two actual unique jackpots. The biggest of the two at the time of this review was a $2.3 million jackpot shared by four different slots. The other jackpot on offer at the time was worth just north of $1,000 at the time of this review and was shared by three games.
The table games collection includes all the standard casino classics such as blackjack, roulette and craps in addition to some other specialty games such as Texas Holdem bonus poker and Double Bonus Spin roulette. Party Casino also offers a handful of standard video poker variants such as Jacks or Better and Deuces Wild.
Party Casino’s live dealer games offer a splash of something unique with real human dealers who interact onscreen with you via live streaming video. As you place bets online, the person on the other side of the screen deals physical cards, announces the game actions and chats with players just like a dealer would if you were actually there in person.
Party Casino for desktop users is completely browser-based with no download necessary while mobile users can download official Party Apps for iOS and Android devices. Mobil users may also visit the Party Casino website to play online through the mobile-ready website without downloading anything.
The software itself is sleek and runs quickly, which is to be expected from a gaming company as experienced as Party. Some of New Jersey’s other casino sites have debuted pretty rough software with companies that are not as experienced, and the difference in quality is noticeable immediately once you switch from one of those other sites to Party Casino NJ.
For instance, live dealer blackjack is even available on Party Casino mobile. Getting a real money, live-dealer game to work properly on mobile devices is no small undertaking, but it works fine at Party Casino.
The game library is quite diverse in look and feel thanks to Party’s inclusion of games from various software providers. The casino includes games from a wide range of developers such as Konami, NetEnt, Barcrest, IGT, Spielo, SG Interactive, NYX, NextGen and more.
Party Casino Slots
Slots are by far Party Casino’s most numerous game type and come in all shapes and sizes. A large number of independent software developers have been tapped to provide slots for Party Casino and that has resulted in a collection of games that are all unique in their own ways.
Some of the slots feature modern graphics that would be at home in a Pixar movie while others look like quite dated today. They have complicated slots with evolving storylines and multiple bonus games mixed in with slots that are simple, basic and fast. You can see the screenshots above to get an idea of what to expect.
One thing Party Casino NJ could improve is to offer more progressive jackpot slots. There is only one major progressive jackpot at this time and it is shared across four online slots. It’s a nice jackpot that often exceeds $2 million, but it would be nice to see other large jackpots offered at other games just to keep things new and fresh for those of us who enjoy aiming for the biggest jackpots.
Party Casino’s current list of jackpot games includes the following games (jackpots listed as of time of this writing):
- Loot’enkhamun: $2,360,311
- Melon Madness: $2,360,311
- Biker Pigs: $2,360,311
- Candy Store: $1,077.70
- Going Nuts: $2,360,311
- Money Boat: $1,077.70
- Pirates’ Booty: $1,077.70
Table Games and Video Poker
Party Casino offers only the most basic collection of table games made up of standard casino staples such as blackjack and roulette. More exotic games are nowhere to be found – not even Caribbean Stud or Let It Ride. Party casino sticks to the absolute basics when it comes to table games.
There are a few variations of blackjack and roulette you can try to mix things up, but those will only take you so far. The full list of table games includes:
- Texas Holdem Bonus Poker
- Vegas Downtown Blackjack Multiplayer
- American Roulette Pro
- Double Bonus Spin Roulette
- Multi-Hand Blackjack
- European Roulette Pro
The story is much the same with video poker at PartyCasino.com. Actually, there are more video poker variations than there are table games, but the total collection still isn’t anywhere near comprehensive. Here’s the full list of video poker variations:
- Bonus Poker
- Double Bonus Poker
- Double Double Bonus Poker
- Jacks or Better
- Deuces Wild
- Double Double Regal Poker
- Jacks or Better
- Jester Poker
- Regal Poker Deluxe
- Five Play Draw Poker Multi-Hand
- Triple Play Draw Poker Multi-Hand
Party Casino Live Dealer Games
Party Casino introduced live dealer tables for blackjack, American roulette, Baccarat and Casino Holdem in 2018, based on software provided by parent company GVC Holdings. The Party Casino live dealer room operates on specific hours, presumably until player traffic grows enough to support moving to a 24/7 schedule.
Party Casino’s current live dealer hours are as follows:
- Monday-Wednesday: 2PM to 3 AM
- Thursday-Sunday: Noon to 3 AM
For anyone unfamiliar with live dealer games, these are exactly what they sound like: online games run by human dealers. Live streaming video piped in from an actual studio casino connects you to a trained dealer who handles the cards, chats with you and the other players and does everything else a real dealer would do.
The intended effect is to make it feel as close to the real thing as possible. If you can’t make it to the Borgata in person some evening, the idea is you can just log on to Party Casino NJ for that live experience from the comfort of home.
Party Poker NJ Review
Party Poker was once the king of online poker in the United States, but had to give up its reign after lawmakers passed the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006 (UIGEA). Party Poker left the US market for years, but made its triumphant return in 2013 after New Jersey legalized online poker and casino games.
The new Party Poker brings with it years’ worth of experience in online poker, which for players translates to high quality software and compatibility with Windows, Mac, iOS and Android machines. Party Poker NJ is still a growing poker site and player traffic reflects that, but we do expect traffic to grow over coming months and years.
Party Poker Bonus
Party Poker NJ has several bonuses on offer for new customers in addition to ongoing promos for loyal players. Party does ask if you have a bonus code when you sign up for an account, but you can leave that blank as it is only used to track marketing campaigns. You will receive all bonuses automatically after signing up and depositing.
No-Deposit Signup Bonus
Party offers all new customers $25 in bonus funds to try it out without making a deposit of your own. All you have to do is sign up for an account, let Party Poker verify your age/identity and then the money is yours. The no-deposit bonus consists of three parts:
- $10 for poker cash games and fast forward poker
- $10 for casino games
- $5 for tournaments
Important terms and conditions: This bonus has favorable terms for players. The $10 poker bonus is free for withdrawal after playing a single raked hand and the $10 casino bonus is clear after wagering $10 on casino games. The $5 in tournament credits comes with no clearing requirements at all.
100% up to $1,000 Deposit Bonus
All new customers who sign up for an account at Party Poker qualify for a 100% bonus worth up to $1,000. What this means is Party Poker will double your first deposit and give you that much extra in bonus funds. Then as you play poker and earn frequent player points, Party Poker will release your bonus in 10% increments.
If you deposit $200, for example, Party Poker will add $200 to your pending bonus account. As you earn frequent player points by participating in real money cash games and tournaments, your bonus will be released in $20 increments until the whole bonus has been cleared. All cleared bonus money can be used to play poker or withdrawn as you wish.
Frequent player points are earned at a rate of 2 points per dollar paid in rake or tournament fees. This means if you participate in a table game and a total of $2 is raked from your winning pots, you will be given 4 points. Likewise, participating in a $20 + $2 tournament would also get you 4 points.
Important terms and conditions: Your bonus is released in 10% increments at a rate of 4 points per bonus dollar. This means a $100 bonus would be released in $10 increments every time you earn 40 points. Your poker bonus may also be cleared in the casino at a rate of 8 casino points per bonus dollar. Minimum qualifying deposit is $10 and you have 60 days to release your bonus.
Party Poker Download
Players may download a PC or Mac-friendly version directly from the Party Poker website or visit the app store to get Party mobile apps for iOS and Android devices. The Party Poker software is as polished as you would expect from the same Party Poker that basically helped kick off the original online poker boom.
The poker lobby is organized into tabs for cash games, “fastforward” tables, sit-n-gos and scheduled tournaments. Choosing any tab brings up a list of active tables for that game type and additional sorting features to narrow down the list of tables to games at specific stakes, with certain numbers of seats and so on.
Tables feature a simplistic design which I personally like because it keeps the focus on playing poker and isn’t distracting. The Party Poker software supports up to four tables at a time and individual tables have all the standard options such as four-color decks and automatic rebuys.
Despite being a relatively small poker site at this early stage in the US market, Party Poker runs a wide range of poker game types and stakes. If traffic continues to grow and additional states join forces with New Jersey to share player pools, these other game types will be ready to give the players what they want.
No-limit Texas Holdem is the only game that runs reliably no matter what time you log in. Games as low as $0.01/$0.02 run on the no-limit side and run to as high as $25/$50 NL ($5,000 buyins). On a typical Monday afternoon, I was able to find active tables running to as high as $5/$10 no-limit. There were not a ton of tables at the higher limits, but there was definitely action to be had.
You can also check out the “fastforward” tab to try a form of poker in which players are automatically and instantly moved to new tables upon folding. This format allows you to squeeze in many more hands per hour and see more action because as soon as you fold your cards, you are whisked away to a new table just as a new hand is dealt.
Fast forward works by pooling all players into a big group and constantly shuffling tables around as players fold their starting hands. What this looks like for you is imagine being dealt a trashy starting hand that you know you’re not going to play. You can just hit the fold button as soon as you see your cards and you’ll be dealt in to a new hand at a new table instantly.
The players at your old table will never know you left until the action gets to your seat, where it will show you folding as normal. In the meantime, you’ll already be at your new table with a new starting hand instead of waiting around for everyone else at your last table. Fast forward still needs more traffic to really get going, but it’s an excellent format when there is enough traffic to support it.
Party Poker hosts heads-up, 6-handed and 9 or 10-handed tables for all game types. One thing players should be aware of is the lobby can be a bit confusing when it comes to finding certain types of tables.
After you hit the filter for game type and stakes, a list of little tables populates the bottom of the screen. That list at the bottom/center of the screen is not the list of tables; it is yet another sort option based on the number of seats. The actual list of individual tables is in a little box on the right side of the lobby.
If you find the Party Poker lobby, you’re not alone. You can uncheck the “group tables” option in the middle of the screen to change this.
Cash game types and limits
- No-Limit Texas Holdem: $0.01/$0.02 NL to $25/$50 NL
- Fixed-Limit Texas Holdem: $0.02/$0.04 to $30/$60
- Pot Limit Omaha: $0.01/$0.02 PL to $25/$50 PL
- fastforward: $0.05/$0.10 NL to $0.25/$0.50 NL
- Seating Options: 2, 6, 9 and 10
Party Poker NJ Tournaments
For a poker site that still struggles to get 200+ people online at the same time, Party Poker NJ has a pretty solid tournament environment. It’s just like a miniaturized version of the old Party Poker with lots of tournament types, satellites to major live events and guaranteed prize pool tournaments hosted every weekend.
For example, Party Poker recently held daily satellites during the runup to the partypoker MILLIONS North America tournament. Through these online satellites, players could win $5,000 prize packages that would send players to compete in a live tournament with $10 million guaranteed.
Party Poker’s biggest weekly tournament is the Sunday $40K Guaranteed event. This one runs every Sunday at 5:00 PM local time and guarantees a minimum prize pool of $40,000 no matter how many people show up or don’t show up. Buyin is $200, but you can also enter through any of the many satellites that run throughout the week.
You’ll also find some medium-sized tournaments during the week at Party. One example is the Mega Tuesday 500 which guarantees $15,000 every Tuesday at 8:00 PM. Buyin to this one is a steep $535, but satellites also run for this one throughout the week.
Sit and go tournaments (SNGs) are hosted 24 hours a day, but low traffic levels still make it tough for these to actually go off with any great frequency. You can usually find a few tournaments starting to fill up, but there is not a ton of selection at this time. However, Party Poker does host single table, multi-table and step SNGs at a wide range of stakes so that everything will be in place once traffic does reach higher levels.
Big Regular Tournaments
- Sunday $40K Guaranteed: $200 entry for $40,000 in guaranteed prizes
- Mega Tuesday 500: $535 entry for $15,000 in guaranteed prizes
- Daily $10K: $109 entry for $10,000 in guaranteed prizes every day
- Multiple freerolls hosted every day with real cash prizes
- Daily freerolls that cost nothing
- Low buyin tournaments starting at $0.25
- Most expensive recurring tournament costs $535
- Single table SNGs: $0.25 to $1,000
- Multi-table SNGs: $0.10 to $1,000
- Step Tournaments: Buyins start low and go up from there as you buy in directly to higher levels – top levels offer big payouts
- Satellite SNGs: Buyins range, prizes are tickets to bigger tournaments
Party Poker shares a player pool with Borgata Poker and that has helped to keep average traffic higher here than at most other NJ poker sites. On a completely average Monday afternoon as this review was being written, Party Poker NJ had 121 players online at 161 tables spread across tournaments and cash games. During peak hours in the evenings and on the weekends, traffic can easily spike to 200+ players.
That’s still a far cry short of the glorious pre-2006 Party Poker days which saw tens of thousands of players online, but it’s a solid start for the state of New Jersey. As New Jersey continues to form player-sharing agreements with other states that have also legalized online poker, Party should continue to grow its base.
What this means for players is traffic is enough to get cash games and tournaments running every day at the lower levels. Once you start getting into $2.50/$5 no-limit, traffic starts thinning out a bit, but you’ll still find the occasional game at all stakes. Party Poker tournaments also run every day, although the best tournaments happen exclusively on weekends.
SNGs and non-Holdem formats such as Omaha still have a very tough time getting off the ground. On most days, these other games are completely deserted. Party Poker leaves those games up and available anyways, most likely on the expectation that traffic will continue to grow.
