BetMGM Launches Sports Betting in West Virginia

This is a developing story and more information will be added as it becomes known. Stay tuned for updates.

BetMGM has launched online and mobile sports betting in West Virginia just in time for the 2020 Super Bowl.

It was a quiet launch for BetMGM WV as no formal announcement has been made as of Wednesday evening. However, BetMGM is now live and accepting signups at wv.betmgm.com.

There are few details regarding the launch of BetMGM other than a snippet of text at the bottom of the BetMGM website that explains:

We are licensed and regulated by the West Virginia Lottery Commission as a Sports Wagering Management Service Provider under the provisions of West Virginia Code §29-22D-1 et seq. We are offering online sports wagering in West Virginia under an agreement with The Greenbrier, a West Virginia Sports Wagering Operator License holder. Our online sports pool system is tested by an independent test laboratory approved by the West Virginia Lottery Commission to provide an online sports pool system that is fair and operates correctly.

BetMGM West Virginia Bonus

BetMGM Sportsbook comes to West Virginia with a healthy signup bonus worth up to $500.

Starting now, West Virginians can sign up for an account to receive up to $500 risk-free on their first wager.

Here’s how it works:

  • Visit wv.betmgm.com to sign up for an account and download the mobile app
  • Make a first deposit of at least $10
  • Place your first wager
  • If it loses, BetMGM will refund your account with an equal amount in free bets (up to $500)
  • Free bets will be credited to your account within 24 hours

Note that the free bets cannot be cashed out and will not be included in any winnings.

BetMGM and the Greenbrier

Neither BetMGM nor the Greenbrier Resort have issued a formal statement detailing their partnership. According to the BetMGM WV website, the two have reached an agreement as per state law.

Under West Virginia law, each land-based casino may partner with third-party operators such as BetMGM to launch up to three independent betting apps.

This is the second such partnership for the Greenbrier. This past August, FanDuel Sportsbook launched in WV on the Greenbrier’s sports betting license.
