DraftKings Sportsbook Officially Launches in Pennsylvania

DraftKings Sportsbook is live in Pennsylvania. After commencing a soft launch on Monday afternoon for three days of testing, DraftKings Pennsylvania received the official go-ahead from regulators on Thursday.

Sports fans located in Pennsylvania can visit DraftKings.com today to sign up for an account and bet on sports. Mobile users can also head that way for links to download the official DraftKings app for Android and iOS devices.

DraftKings CEO Jason Robins lauded his company’s Pennsylvania launch in a press release issued this morning:

We have seen immense success over the last year with our sportsbook product and are thrilled for this pivotal next step as DraftKings expands into Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania is home to two of the biggest sports cities in the world and multiple big-time college programs, with some of the most die-hard fan bases of all-time. We could not be more excited to introduce those fans to our top-rated mobile sportsbook and provide them with the unrivaled experience that has become synonymous with DraftKings.

DraftKings is the sixth mobile sportsbook to launch in Pennsylvania to date and the second major daily fantasy provider to enter the market. Fellow fantasy operator / sportsbook FanDuel got to the finish line first after launching in July and now accounts for more than half the state’s online betting handle and revenue.

Like FanDuel, DraftKings will benefit from brand name recognition and a large database of daily fantasy customers located in Pennsylvania. Look also for DraftKings to ramp up its advertising efforts across the state as it plays catch up with its chief rival. In related news, DraftKings recently announced an agreement with the NBA to become an authorized sports betting operator of the league.

Fist Look at DraftKings Pennsylvania

For anyone following the expansion of DraftKings Sportsbook across the US, the Pennsylvania launch has provided no major surprises. The existing website and mobile app offered in New Jersey, West Virginia and Indiana have simply opened their doors to customers from Pennsylvania.

This means customers can place pre-game and in-play wagers on a wide range of professional and college sports. The DraftKings app features popular wagers on the home screen upon logging in along with a navigation menu to view current in-play betting markets and the latest lines for upcoming games within each sport.

Individual matchups are often covered with dozens of wagers ranging from standard bets on the point total and who will win the game to alternative lines, team props, player props and much more.

DraftKings Mobile Betting App

The same DraftKings mobile app used by customers in NJ, WV and IN now works for customers in PA. Bettors who have already downloaded the sportsbook app in another state do not need to download a new app. All that’s needed is to launch the existing app and log in or sign up for an account.

Prior DraftKings Daily Fantasy users can use their existing login information at DraftKings Sportsbook as well.

Customers who still need the sportsbook app can head to sportsbook.draftkings.com to sign up for an account and find links to download the official app for iOS or Android.

DraftKings Partnered with The Meadows via Penn National Gaming

Pennsylvania sports betting law requires online providers such as DraftKings to partner with a land-based casino. To that end, DraftKings is partnered with The Meadows Casino to offer online and mobile betting.

The Meadows also launched a retail sportsbook last month featuring 15 HD TVs, five ticket windows and 18 self-service betting kiosks. The retail sportsbook is operated in-house and does not feature DraftKings branding.

DraftKings secured market entry to Pennsylvania and six other states through a deal reached with Meadows parent company Penn National Gaming in July. Under the terms of the agreement, Penn National will receive revenue share from DraftKings based on net gaming revenue.

The deal is set to last for an initial 10-year term with an option to extend the deal an additional 10 years.
