Parx Casino has launched online gambling in New Jersey following a successful soft launch held at the beginning of the month.
Parx Casino is the most successful land-based casino in Pennsylvania by revenue, and entered the online gambling market there with the launch of a mobile sportsbook in June 2019 and an online casino the following month.
New Jersey law requires all operators to partner with a local, land-based casino in order to offer online gaming to Garden State customers. To that end, Parx Online Casino is partnered with Atlantic City’s Ocean Resort Casino.
The Parx Casino platform in both states is powered by technology from business-to-business suppliers GAN and Kambi. In a press release announcing the launch of Parx Online in New Jersey, GAN CEO Dermot Smurfit said this:
Launching the largest casino in Pennsylvania online has now logically extended across the border into New Jersey, extending their reach into New Jersey’s fast-growing and established Internet gambling market. This represents an incremental revenue opportunity for GAN and is a logical extension of our technology infrastructure to serve Parx Casino patrons who routinely cross the invisible border between these two populous States.

First Look at Pax Casino NJ
Parx Online launches in New Jersey with a modest collection of about 90 games. The majority of these are online slots from a variety of providers including NetEnt, Konami, IGT and others.
The table game selection is similarly modest with a collection of ten games consisting of baccarat, EZ baccarat, two blackjack variations, Casino Hold’em, Hi-Lo, Jacks or Better, Poker Bet and two roulette variations.
Overall, the game selection here falls well short of the more established NJ providers on the market today. A lack of progressive jackpot games and live dealer tables puts Parx Online at a disadvantage relative to the competition over the short term. That being said, this is still very early into Parx Casino’s online gambling foray.

Parx Online Casino Now; Sports Betting Up Next?
Parx Casino enters New Jersey with an online casino product but lacks sports betting as of today. However, that seems highly likely to change given the current momentum sports betting has in New Jersey and elsewhere.
Additionally, Parx Casino already operates sports betting in Pennsylvania and so obviously has the capability. New Jersey is a more mature market than PA, but the barriers to entry are also significantly lower ($10 million sports betting license fee + 36% tax rate in PA versus $100K license fee + 13% tax rate in NJ).
There is also the matter of revenue potential to consider. Sports betting may be grabbing headlines lately, but it is a low-margin activity compared to gambling. Online gambling generates significantly more revenue for states that have both. Parx Casino can introduce mobile betting in NJ at a later date with a fully functional online casino already in place to leverage the cross-selling potential.
If Parx does launch sports betting in New Jersey, its mobile sportsbook in Pennsylvania offers a preview of what can be expected in the Garden State. The Parx PA betting site covers a full range of North American leagues, international leagues and college betting. In-play wagering is offered as well and customers in PA can play online at the Parx Casino website or through mobile apps developed for Android and iOS devices.
