First Iowa Sportsbooks and Mobile Betting Apps Launch Today

Sports betting is now live in Iowa.

Seven Iowa casinos opened sportsbooks today to officially kick off the state’s legal sports betting industry.

Eighteen Iowa casinos in total have been approved for sports betting and each will be opening a brand-new sportsbook over the next few weeks in time for the start of the NFL regular season.

Mobile betting is also on the way. Iowa sports betting law allows each casino to operate up to two individual betting apps in partnership with outside providers. The first of those will be going live tomorrow with more to come shortly thereafter.

Iowa Mobile Betting Begins Friday

William Hill and Elite Sportsbook are first up in line to commence online sports betting in Iowa.

State law requires all customers to visit a casino location in-person to sign up for a mobile wagering account. After registering in-person, users may log in from anywhere in the state to view the lines, make deposits and place wagers.

The in-person registration requirement will only be in place until January 1st 2021. After that point, new customers may sign up for accounts online without having to visit a casino in-person.

William Hill Mobile in Iowa

William Hill US CEO Joe Asher said earlier today that mobile betting will should be ready to go by Friday for Android users and within the next two weeks for iPhone users.

In the meantime, anyone interested in betting online with William Hill may visit any of the four casinos partnered with William Hill to register for an account:

  • Prairie Meadows Casino
  • Lakeside Casino
  • Isle Casino Waterloo
  • Isle Casino Bettendorf

EliteSportsbook.com

EliteSportsbook.com was intended to go live today, but Grand Falls Casino posted an update on Twitter today stating the launch of mobile betting at Elite Sportsbook has been delayed as it finishes the approval process with state regulators.

According to Grand Falls Casino, it “won’t be long” before Elite Sportsbook goes live. Until then, customers may still visit any of the three Elite Sportsbook partners to register for accounts in-person.

  • Grand Falls Casino
  • Rhythm City Casino
  • Riverside Casino

Other Mobile Betting Providers Coming Soon

The new Iowa sports betting law is conducive to a competitive industry with each casino allowed to partner with individual providers to operate up to two online/mobile sportsbooks each. Now that 18 casinos have received sports betting licenses, that means we could (in theory) see up to 36 unique betting apps offer their services in Iowa.

Some of the bigger names we may see in Iowa sooner or later include:

While online betting has been delayed a bit, it is full steam ahead for seven of the state’s land-based casinos. The following sportsbooks all launched in-person betting today.

We thought PointsBet Sportsbook at Catfish Bend Casino was going to open today but the targeted start date is now August 19th. That will still come in time for the start of the college and NFL football seasons, though.

PointsBet promises to provide a “new way to enjoy the sports you love” and you can take them at their word. In addition to a standard wagering menu, PointsBet offers a unique form of wagering in which customers can bet per point and get paid more for being more right (or lose more for being more wrong).
