DraftKings Joins AGA Responsible Gambling Campaign
Online gambling provider DraftKings has committed to applying the American Gaming Association’s (AGA) Have a Game Plan. Bet Responsibly campaign to many of its brands and channels. As stated in a recent press release, the ultimate goal is to promote safer gambling options for players across the nation.
The collaboration with DraftKings Sportsbook is significant in that the campaign will be rolled out across a national retail sportsbook.
Earlier this year, rival FanDuel became the first mobile sportsbook operator to join the AGA initiative. The group committed to working with media, team, and league partners to push the Have a Game Plan campaign across many media outlets such as digital, radio, and TV.
Incorporating Responsible Gambling Across All DraftKings Channels
DraftKings operates ten retail sportsbooks in the United States, and the campaign will be adopted at all of them.
The sportsbook operator also said it would incorporate the Have A Game Plan into its owned channels, including digital marketing and social media.
DraftKings is already committed to responsible gambling through its own It’s More Fun When it’s For Fun campaign, which promotes good gambling habits in customers.
The company also plans to promote its responsible gambling messages through social media, providing updated information on existing tools and campaigns. Its mission is to mitigate any potential harm caused by gambling, protect vulnerable populations such as minors, use technology, and provide training for staff and players.
The company also offers its players a wide range of DraftKings responsible gaming tools, including limit setting, cooling-off periods, self-exclusion, and supports evidence-based research about gambling.
What DraftKings Says About the Collaboration
The director of responsible gaming at DraftKings, Christine Thurmond, said that the group was excited about joining forces with the American Gaming Association to promote their “forward-thinking public service campaign.”
“Customer safety is paramount, and we are confident that implementing Have A Game Plan alongside our own responsible gaming messaging and tools will enable us to increase customer exposure to responsible gaming practices and ultimately foster safer play,” added Thurmond.
What the AGA Says
The association’s senior vice president of strategic communications, Casey Clark, pointed out that responsibility is a fundamental priority for the American gaming industry.
“With more than 100 million American adults now able to legally bet on sports nationwide, it is critical to educate consumers about how to safely and responsibly bet on the sports they love – and bringing the Have a Game Plan campaign to DraftKings’ extensive network of sportsbooks and customers is a great way to do just that. We are thankful for their significant commitment to keeping bettors safe and educated about responsible gaming,” he said.
Have a Game Plan Partners
The expansion of legal sports betting in the United States led the American Gaming Association to launch a campaign to ensure every gaming experience is done safely and responsibly.
One of the ways to maintain this goal is to partner with influential sports leagues and operators across the nation and help spread the AGA’s responsible gambling message across multiple platforms.
Since launching the campaign, the AGA has partnered with:
- NASCAR– The AGA’s first professional sports league partner, signed on in September 2020.
- NHL – The National Hockey League was the first of the four major leagues to partner with the campaign, joining in October 2020.
- The PGA Tour – Golf’s most popular tour joined with the AGA in January.
- FanDuel – The first mobile sportsbook operator to partner with the AGA, FanDuel made a multi-million-dollar commitment towards responsible gaming messaging.
- UFC – Joined the campaign as a league partner in April 2021.
- Sightline – The first online gambling payment processing company to join the campaign. The group displays responsible sports betting content to its new users and 1.5 million cardholders.
