New Jersey’s first operator dedicated exclusively to esports betting is open for business. On Monday, the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement approved Esports Entertainment Group to begin offering esports betting to a limited number of customers at VIE.gg ahead of its full public launch.

With the approval, VIE.gg becomes the first operator of its kind to offer esports betting in New Jersey.

VIE.gg Brings Esports Betting in New Jersey to a New Level

Several New Jersey sports betting sites offer sporadic wagers on esports events, but VIE.gg is the first dedicated entirely to competitive video gaming.

Esports Entertainment Group commenced a five-day soft launch period on Monday and plans to open to the public if everything goes well in the meantime. In a press release, Esports Entertainment Group explained that its mission is to “help connect the world at large with the future of sports entertainment in unique and enriching ways that bring fans and gamers together.”

Analysts expect the New Jersey esports betting market to experience significant growth as fans take advantage of betting opportunities involving the games they enjoy playing and watching. The VIE.gg platform allows players to wager on such popular video games as Call of Duty, League of Legends, DOTA 2, and CS: GO.

Grant Johnson, the CEO of Esports Entertainment Group, say the company is pleased to be the first esports-dedicated operator in New Jersey. Johnson thanked the Division of Gaming Enforcement for approval and the trust the regulator has put into the company.

“Global esports betting is estimated to exceed $205 billion by 2027, and we are thrilled to be playing such an important role in the fast-growing market with the launch of our first esports wagering offering in the United States.”

During the soft launch period, VIE.gg will only offer real-money esports betting during specific hours. Once the testing process is over, the site will launch 24/7 operations if New Jersey regulators are satisfied it meets all regulatory benchmarks.

Esports Entertainment Group to Host Esports Tournament in AC

Late last year, Esports Entertainment Group announced an upcoming event at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Atlantic City. The property will host the first sanctioned esports skill-based wagering event in the United States this March. The tournament was supposed to take place in January, but officials decided to postpone it.

The event will launch LANDuel and serve as a jumping-off point for more esports betting events in the future. The two-day tournament will run on March 19th and 20th at the Seminole Ballroom of the casino and feature Madden 22. During the event, participants can wager on themselves each round. To participate, players must check in at the tournament and register for a LANDuel account.

After registering, officials will assign every player to a PC. Tournament play will begin from there with an Xbox or PlayStation controller. Players can place wagers on their matches as they fight to make it to the final round. The tournament is open to players 21+ and spectators aged 18+.

A total of 256 players can take part in the double-elimination tournament. Entry is free, and registration is still open. A total of $9,000 in prize money is up for grabs.
