DraftKings Takes Over Oregon Online Sports Betting

DraftKings signs new deal with Oregon Lottery

This week, the Oregon Lottery announced that its relationship with the Scoreboard sports betting app is ending as it starts a new partnership era with DraftKings. Scoreboard launched in October 2019 in Oregon, but now the Lottery wants to take a new direction with its betting services. The transition to DraftKings Sportsbook in Oregon will begin on January 18.

Oregon Lottery Changing Sports Betting Provider

Current customers of Scoreboard in Oregon can still access the app as usual until the transfer starts on the 18th. Once the migration takes place, the app’s functionality will change as DraftKings takes over operations.

While the Oregon sportsbook app will be different, players can still access their Scoreboard account information, history of transactions, and withdrawal capabilities for up to six months after the transition. Open bets within Scoreboard accounts will remain in place until they are settled.

On the 18th, Oregon sports bettors can transition to DraftKings Oregon and transfer existing funds to the brand’s sportsbook app. DraftKings offers a premium betting experience, including built-in tools within the app that helps with responsible gambling needs such as deposit limits and cooldown periods.

In a press release, Oregon Lottery Director Barry Pack commented on the new partnership that the Lottery is excited about offering an improved experience for players, including parlay betting.

“DraftKings is a premier provider in the US. We see benefits for Lottery too, as the shift to DraftKings means fewer third-party service providers and a simpler financial structure for player accounts.”

Co-founder and President of Global Technology and Product for DraftKings, Paul Liberman, commented that DraftKings is thrilled to work with the Oregon Lottery as it continues to build its coast-to-coast presence within the US.

The partnership deal with the Oregon Lottery marks the second exclusive lottery agreement signed by DraftKings over the past few years. The brand teamed up with the New Hampshire Lottery back in 2019.

Scoreboard App Wasn’t Well Received By Oregon Bettors

The change is due to performance. Or lack thereof.

Oregon has underperformed for an online sports betting state, generating just over $50 million in revenue since its launch in October 2019. New Hampshire, a state with 1/3 the population of Oregon launched in December 2019 with a similar lottery-monopoly structure and has generated nearly $65 million in revenue.

Why has the Scoreboard product underperformed in the state of Oregon? Customer complaints run the gamut, with a lack of promotions and an inability to access the Scoreboard app during high-volume events seemingly all too common.

DraftKings Continues To Expand Into New States

The new deal with the Oregon Lottery comes just days after DraftKings launched new sports betting services in New York State. DraftKings was one of four companies approved for the January 8th launch. Players have anticipated this launch for quite some time, and it is expected that the NY sports betting industry will soon take over the top spot in the US.

DraftKings prepped for the launch by offering a preregistration deal, and now that the site is live, new players can access a deposit bonus worth up to $1,000. Services are offered via iOS and Android devices so that players can take their betting on the go.

The brand is no stranger to New York as they launched retail sports betting back in 2019 via the del Lago Resort and Casino. The addition of online betting will only help secure the brand a top spot in the sports betting industry within the Empire State.
